My daughter, the musical prodigy

January 8th, 2009

I am doing some cooking in the kitchen and suddenly I hear the most beautiful music coming from my feet:

Beautiful music from Carrie on Vimeo.

Miss Leyba came up with the whole thing on her own (even arranging the bowls just so) and, oh boy, does she take her music making seriously.

I love it.

  2. Carrie, I’m fascinated. Look at the way she has the bowls arranged and is banging them to hear the different sounds! In so many of your videos Miss Leyba seems to be interested in pitch and tone–clapping and tapping with your excellent friend Kate-Robin, staring with total interest at the drums while Uncle Lee plays them, plunking away on xylophones at the museum, and now clanging the cooking bowls in the kitchen. If she grows up to love music, you can tell her tales of when Mama sang with the L’ville Singers! It’s so exciting to watch her discover the world.

  3. omg — she’s built Lee’s drum set!!! She even plays the bowl with a tapa-tap-tap rhythm just like she did with Uncle Lee! Not only does she remember, but she can APPLY! How wonderful and amazing!

  4. I’m riveted. You could keep taping for 10 minutes and I would just sit and enjoy this. I can’t believe it’s already coming up to the one-year mark – can’t wait to see you guys again!
